Bee Happy

Product design

The gradual disappearance of bees is creating a huge environmental imbalance.

Bee Happy is an apicentric hive. Its role is to preserve bees, while allowing observation of the hive’s interior.

Bee Happy can accommodate a colony. The hive’s oval shape evokes the bee’s body.

Inspired by the Sun Hive – conceived and designed by German sculptor Guenther Mancke – the hive allows the colony to develop in full view.

It is aimed at both private individuals and professionals, who are keen to understand bees and offer them a habitat.

The project was selected in 2022 by the Clos Folard park in Morières-lès-Avignon as part of the creation of educational workshops.

Lectures with a beekeeper, honey harvesting and observation sessions will be organized.

Model (50×20 cm) in polystyrene, metal lid, wooden frames.

3D Bee Happy I Marie Lecommandoux

The model consists of wooden frames in the shape of half-spheres, a wooden hive body with a Plexiglas window, a flight board, a metal inlet reducer and a metal hermetic cover.

Its realization allows me to highlight several improvements:

  • the overall size of the hive
  • the installation of an additional honey collection
  • the installation of a waste evacuator at the bottom of the hive
  • the regulated integration of the hive into the park.
